The Central Department of Management Tribhuwan University (CDMTU) Kirtipur conducted “Seminar on Business Plan on Micro-finance Institutions” for Master of Business Management (MBM) 3rd semester and Master of Business Administration (MBA) 2nd-semester students. The chief guest of the programme was Mr. Pramesh Acharya, CEO of Womi Lagubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited. He has highlighted major issues in Nepalese microfinance industry such as; the multiple borrowing, interest rate structure, high operation cost, client protection and dependency on borrowing. Furthermore, he has elaborated gap of academic and technical human resources in the microfinance field.

Assistant Prof. Dr. Bal Ram Duwal, the Microfinance and Entrepreneurship subject instructor delivered a welcome speech and emphasized the importance of business simulation activities to lead in the business and management area.

Five teams of the students from MBM 3rd semester students had presented the business plan on Urban Development Micro-finance Limited, Sunaulo Grameen Bank, Safal Jeevan Saving and Credit Cooperative Ltd., Mero Karnali Micro-finance Limited, and Mayadevi Microfinance limited, respectively. Urban development MFI team focused on the existing poverty on the urban area which is lacking behind. Sunaulo Grameen MFI team focused on the women poverty specially Sindhupalchok area. Safal Jeevan MFI team focused on the poverty of people by following the cooperative approach. Mero Karnali MFI team had focused on Karnali province pro-poor people. Mayadevi MFI team special focused was on poor farmer of local area Kapilvastu and Rupandehi district and they had target COVID-19 as the opportunity of microfinance. The presented business plan was evaluated by the CEO Acharya, Asso. Prof. Bharat Singh Thapa and Asso.Prof. Dr. Duwal.

Sunaulo Grameen Bank MFI team led by Deenu Ujhanthachhe received the best business plan prize. Suresh Khadka from Urban development MFI team was awarded as best presenter among others. The program was chaired by MBM program director Asso. Prof. Dr. Achyut Gyawali. Associate Prof. Dr. Gyan Mani Adhikari, the director of MBA programme was also the guest in this session.
